Warranty:

Vom Eichen Hugel German Shepherds offers a 26 month warranty on all puppies sold. If determined, by a veterinarian, that said puppy has any genetic problems that would preclude it from living an otherwise normal and healthy life, or in the case of hip and elbow evaluation, as determined by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA), vom Eichen Hugel German Shepherds will replace the puppy with another puppy of equal or greater value as soon as a suitable pup is available. (Please note that OFA ratings of Fair, Good and Excellent are passing and pups will not be replaced with passing OFA ratings.) We do not refund money. This is a replacement puppy guarantee only. In addition we will only replace a pup twice. If someone gets three pups from our kennel and all three have bad hips then that person is doing something wrong in the way they raise their dogs and we will not cover any additional replacements.

The puppy's general health is guaranteed for 72 hours, after the date it is picked up in person or shipped, through examination of a licensed veterinarian within the first 72 hours of delivery. If the veterinarian finds the animal to be suffering from any serious hereditary or communicable disease, which could result in demise, extended veterinary care, or future development of the animal, the Buyer may return the animal at his expense to the Seller within the original 72 hours. Sufficient documentation from the examining Veterinarian must accompany the pup on its return. There are no other implied guarantees past 72 hours other that those listed below. Buyer agrees to pay for all transportation cost of returning puppy/dog.

Additional Warranties:

The pups ears are guaranteed to stand. If they are not standing by 6 months, the owner must contact vom Eichen Hugel German Shepherds. The pup must be examined by his vet at 5 months of age. The ears must be taped for a period of 4 weeks starting at 5 months. If they are not standing after 4 weeks of taping the owner must again contact vom Eichen Hugel German Shepherds and the dog must again be seen by the vet at 6 months of age.

A pup will not be replaced for soft ears unless these procedures are followed and have been documented in our office. We do not have ear problems in our dogs. If a pet owner takes the necessary precautions to tape weak ears 99.9% of the time they will stand. It is entirely possible to have a dog whose ears would have stood had they been taped. But they did not stand because the owner has not done his or her share in making sure the ears were properly taken care of.

Clients should know that ears may come up and then go back down when the dog begins to get new teeth. If this happens the ears will ALWAYS come back up after teething.

We do not warrant the temperament of our puppies. Too often, nice puppies develop temperament problems as a result of the way they were raised. We have no control over environment.

The pups hips are warranted to "a' Stamp ("a" 1, "a" 2 or "a" 3) through the SV in Germany at 1 year of age or OFA fair, good or excellent at 2 years of age. We require hip prelim x-rays at 12 months of age. If the owners vet suspects a problem with the hips, the owner or his vet should send the x-rays to the OFA and ask for a preliminary opinion. A copy of the x-ray must be sent to vom Eichen Hugel before the dog is replaced. The hip warranty is non transferable. Further, females should not be x-rayed 1 month prior to heat cycle nor 1 month post heat cycle.

It is important to understand that there is a possibility that a puppy from our kennel or any other kennel can develop hip dysplasia, even though every dog we breed has had it's hips x-rayed, certified and has good hips. In fact every dog in the last 5 generations of our breeding stock has certified good hips. But this does not change the fact that German Shepherds all have the ability to produce an occasional bad hip in their off spring. The only way to get a 100% guarantee that a dog does not have bad hips is to purchase an adult dog and have the hips x-rayed before the purchase.

We wish that we could say that a pup from our kennel will never have bad hips. Unfortunately, this is not the case. Because of the nature of the breed, there is still a small risk that a dog from our kennel can have a bad hip. Canine hip dysplasia (CHD) is considered to be a multifactorial disease, with genetics, nutrition and environment all playing a role in whether a given dog develops the disorder. Veterinary research designed to determine the impact of diet on the development of hip dysplasia has been performed since the early 1960's.

Hip Dysplasia has four major causes:

genetics

diet

over feeding

too much exercise at a young age

It is felt that genetics play between a 25% and 30% role in a dog having hip dysplasia. This means that new pet owners can assume a great deal of responsibility (70% to 75%) in their dog developing good or bad hips.

This begins with feeding a high premium dog food, or a dog food that is made up of all human grade ingredients (i. Timberwolf). Further, we require that you keep your puppy on Timberwolf Organics throughout the length of our warranty. You can Order Timberwolf Organics directly through my website. It also means that you should keep your dog lean. Carrying too much weight at a young age is going to add stress on soft puppy bones and you only kid yourself if you think this does not have an effect on skeletal development. Further, we require that you keep your puppy on Timberwolf Organics throughout the length of our warranty.

New owners need to be very careful of over exercising a pup. This means no jogging until after the dog is 12 months old. This means not exercising to the point of exhaustion, or taking the pup for long walks. Around the block is fine, a 2 mile hike is not. Swimming is a wonderful way to exercise your pup without putting stress on the hips, spine and joints.

If the dog is bred before 2 years of age -THIS WARRANTY IS VOID. This does not mean you cannot breed before 2 years. It just means you need to x-ray and be sure of the hips before you breed. We will not replace a dog for bad hips if it has been bred before 2 years of age.

All Vet expenses incurred after the purchase of a puppy is the responsibility of the new owner.

Deposits are non-refundable, but can be rolled over to a future litter.
